Midway Extension District is located in Central Kansas along the Smoky Hill River in the Smoky Hills. The population of the district is roughly 13,325. Midway District has two lakes that provide recreational opportunities for local residents. The district has five school districts and two medical centers. The district staff is housed in offices in Ellsworth and Russell and includes four agents, one program assistant and two office professionals. Extension agents are professional educators who serve as a link between Kansas State University and communities across Kansas. This position will lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive 4-H youth development program for school-aged youth in cooperation with local residents and extension colleagues. The primary focus of this position is youth development, adult volunteer development, youth education program development, expanding partnerships, and participation and membership growth. Programming will include but is not limited to: supporting community clubs, out-of-school programs, school enrichment, volunteer management, and outreach to create new program opportunities with existing and new community partners. This position will also supervise the 4-H Program Assistant.

The Department of Diagnostic Medicine/Pathobiology within the College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking applicants for a Fellow (Post Doc.) The postdoctoral fellow will be responsible for conducting ongoing research in identification of protective African Swine Fever Virus antigens, formulation of prototype vaccines, and conducting efficacy studies in pigs. Additional area of research will involve defining novel protective BVDV epitopes, testing efficacy and cross-protection of novel BVDV mosaic antigens in cattle. Some efforts will also be directed at the development/optimization of Lateral Flow diagnostic tools and EliSpot readouts of interest for which there is no commercial products in the market. The on-going USDA and NIH supported research projects will utilize multiple live vector platforms, and studies will be conducted in commercial swine and cattle at BSL2/3 levels.
