General Description of Position: This program promotes children's active exploration in all areas of development: social/emotional, physical, cognitive, and language. Teachers prepare the environment and plan activities that are appropriate for the age span of the children in the classroom while considering the different needs, development, and interests of each individual child. Helping children explore consequences, make choices and negotiate social conflicts. Extending children's knowledge and vocabulary through the use of thoughtful conversations and asking open ended questions. Modeling respect, acceptance, and empathy, support each child's accomplishments, provide encouragement, and increase self-esteem by providing increasingly challenging activities at which children can be successful. In addition to the indoor classroom, our philosophy sees the outdoor learning environment as an equally important component of children's learning. Providing consistent outdoor time to encourage children's understanding and respect for their world and its natural resources.

Job Description:

Learning Environment:

  • Intentionally plan and maintain a positive learning environment both indoors and outdoors that fosters development in motor, cognitive, language, social, emotional, and creative domains.

  • Assist Lead Teacher to develop and implement curriculum that fosters development in motor, cognitive, language, social, emotional, and creative domains.

  • Create and maintain a positive learning environment in accordance with the following early childhood standards, regulations or assessment tools

  • Model CCD values to children, parents and staff members.

Child Assessment:

  • Records observations and anecdotal notes on all children on a daily basis to be used in child's assessment.

  • Collect photos and work samples to illustrate emerging abilities and activities of children to be used in child's portfolio.

  • Maintain records of each child's progress and experiences through individualized portfolios according to Center policies/procedures.

Program Management:

  • Maintain orderly and sanitary conditions by completing tasks on daily cleaning charts and NAEYC Cleaning and Sanitation Frequency Chart in accordance with Center, State, and National guidelines.

  • Complete tasks and obligations in accordance with supervisor requests and specific deadlines.

  • Supervise assigned staff members and monitor staff/child ratios at all times.

  • Assist Assistant Director and Lead Teacher in orienting, training and evaluating assigned classroom staff and volunteers.

  • Complete self-assessment tools to recognize areas of needed improvement to be subitted to supervisor by written instruction.

  • Maintain and keep current NAEYC Accreditation Classroom Portfolio with up to date evidence from the classroom proving compliance of all criterion.

  • Complete maintenance requests when necessary for any repairs or improvements to indoor/outdoor environment.

  • Maintain regular contact with Assistant Director, Lead Teacher, and assigned supervisor regarding classroom issues (challenging behaviors, parent concerns, child absences, suspected abuse/neglect, and suspected developmental delays).

  • Assist supervisor and Lead Teacher in purchase requests and suggestions for equipment and material needed for operation of the program.

Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma
  • Five sessions of observation for not less than 2 ½ consecutive hours per observation in licensed preschools or child care centers with one year teaching experience in a licensed center or preschool, or one year of supervised practicum in licensed center or preschool.


  • Seven to nine semester hours of academic credit or equivalent training in child development or early childhood education; and three months teaching experience in licensed center or preschool, or one year o supervised practicum in licensed center or preschool. 
Preferred Qualifications: Child Development Associate, AA or BA in ECE, Child Development or related field

Salary Range / Pay Rate: $9.68 - $14.04 per hour
