General Description of Position: Vehicle / Equipment Mechanic position in Hays, KS. This position is responsible for maintaining the research center’s farm equipment and motor vehicle fleet.  Must have at least one year of experience in automotive and/or diesel mechanics.

Job Description: Equipment Mechanic Senior position in Hays, KS. This position is responsible for maintaining the research center’s farm equipment and motor vehicle fleet.  Must have at least one year of experience in automotive and/or diesel mechanics.
Required Minimum Qualifications: One year of experience in automotive and/or diesel mechanics. 
Preferred Qualifications: High School Diploma. Two years experience in a farming environment including opportunities to maintain and repair farm machinery and equipment. Vocational training in diesel mechanics, automotive mechanics, gasoline engine repair, welding, and electrical wiring. Ability to communicate in both spoken and written English. Knowledge of the principles of internal combustion engines and demonstrated proficiency in diesel mechanics, automotive mechanics, small engine and motor repair, sheet metal, welding. Knowledge of standard practices, methods, occupational hazards, and safety precautions as well as skill in the use of hand and/or power tools and equipment needed in the adjustment, repair, and maintenance of automotive and related equipment. Ability to locate and adjust defects in motor equipment, work from schematic drawings and maintenance and repair manuals, and to keep service records. Knowledge of modern farming operations and skills in operation of large farm equipment.
