General Description of Position:

The purpose of this position is to provide group student financial aid presentations to prospective K-State students and their families. The position will also advise individual, prospective and continuing students on the processes associated with obtaining financial assistance at K-State. Additionally, the position will be charged with a number of time sensitive tasks such as responding to standard e-mail inquiries, administering student aid assistance for special populations such as individuals studying abroad, and supporting the office’s service mission involving the application of complex student aid procedures/processes.

The Successful Candidate will:

  • This position is responsible for providing large and small group student financial aid presentations to prospective K-State students and their families in coordination between the Office of Student Financial Assistance and the Office of New Student Services. The customer service orientation of this position requires a robust understanding of complex federal, state, and institutional student financial aid eligibility criteria as well as the successful communication of critical processing time lines. Occasionally this position will require work to occur outside of the regular 8 - 5 Monday through Friday work week. 
  • The position also provides individual, in person advising to both prospective and continuing students and their families as part of the office’s student recruitment and retention efforts. Special emphasis is placed on providing student financial aid counseling and administrative support for sub-sets of continuing students enrolled in programs of study that require enhanced administrative monitoring/tracking to ensure aid eligibility. To illustrate, the position will serve as the office’s liaison with the university’s Office of Education Abroad and will administer the university’s foster care waiver, tuition offset, and Bridges Grant programs.
  • The position will contribute to the office’s overall student service mission by completing in a timely and accurate manner short and long term tasks assigned by the position’s supervisor. Assignments will include, but are not limited to – responding to general office incoming e-mail communications, processing Summer Financial Aid applications, performing Cost of Attendance budget adjustments, serving walk-ins at the front desk, taking incoming phone calls, performing student aid award adjustments, etc.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

This position requires four years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two or more years counseling work experience within higher education and/or within a customer service oriented industry.
  • Proven employment record that reflects ability to accurately perform mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to author professional quality, written correspondence with students/clients and colleagues as part of daily routine.
  • Ability to independently apply complex guidelines in identifying and presenting resolutions to customer/student concerns.
  • Ability to perform public speaking to small groups for informational and/or training purposes.

Salary Range/ Pay Rate:

$15.67 - $24.29 per hour

Please note: the minimum pay rate for this position is $15.67. Actual pay rate will be determined based on the candidates experience, education, internal equity and departmental funding. Salary offers are typically made between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range. The range indicated includes both the typical hiring range and potential future progression.
