General Description of Position:

The Staley School of Leadership Studies at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas, is seeking candidates for an instructor/assistant professor.  The successful candidate for this 9-month, non-tenure track position will teach courses in the leadership minor, advise undergraduate students, contribute to programs in leadership development, service learning and student civic engagement, advance the goals of the School’s strategic plan, and support the mission of the Staley School of Leadership Studies in ways that reflect its values-based mission.

Responsibilities

  1. Actively contribute to the Staley School of Leadership Studies’ learning community, beyond one’s own teaching, programming, coordination, and service to advance the School’s mission
  2. Teach undergraduate courses in leadership
  3. Advise undergraduate students in academic programs of the Staley School
  4. Contribute to co-curricular leadership programs of the Staley School of Leadership Studies in leadership development, service learning and student civic engagement
  5. Serve on departmental, college, and university committees
  6. Other related duties as assigned

Information about the Department:

The Staley School of Leadership Studies at Kansas State University is a learning community with a values-based mission that promotes both curricular studies and co-curricular activities, integrating thought and action. The School’s faculty and staff provide learning experiences aligned with the mission of “developing knowledgeable, ethical, caring, inclusive leaders for a diverse and changing world” for the approximately 1,000 undergraduate students in the program. The Staley School of Leadership Studies provides such an environment through three interrelated avenues:  1) the administration of academic programs including an interdisciplinary minor in Leadership Studies, a secondary major in Global Food Systems Leadership, and an interdisciplinary PhD in Leadership Communication; 2) the facilitation of a learning community of Leadership Studies’ students in which core values are explored and modeled, and 3) applied-learning efforts, scholarship and creative endeavors which emphasize each aspect of our mission. All faculty and staff in the Staley School of Leadership Studies are expected to advance this mission.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Earned master’s degree for consideration as instructor; earned doctorate for consideration as assistant professor
  • Demonstrated evidence of engaged teaching at the post-secondary level
  • Demonstrated evidence of a strong commitment to pedagogies of engagement such as applied learning, service learning, internships, learning communities, and civic engagement
  • Demonstrated evidence of a strong commitment to mentoring students at the post-secondary level
  • Demonstrated evidence of success as an advocate for the whole student experience at the post-secondary level
  • Demonstrated evidence of commitment to equity and an ability to work effectively with diverse populations
  • Demonstrated ability to speak effectively in front of large groups

Preferred Qualifications:

 
  • Knowledge of college student development theories and practices
  • Evidence of service beyond the classroom

Salary Range/ Pay Rate:

Starting annual salary for instructor is $45,000; for Assistant Professor, starting salary is $55,000 annually.
