General Description of Position:

The Agronomy Department at Kansas State University is looking for a Research Technician to work on field, greenhouse and laboratory research activities related to the Soybean Breeding and Genetics project on improving soybean yield, seed composition, and abiotic and biotic stress resistance. This individual will work closely with the Manhattan team and conduct breeding and genetics research to develop and identify new soybean varieties with improved traits.

Job Description:

Field research support: Assist with plot maintenance, planting, data collection, harvest, data processing, and seed processing involved with field evaluations of soybean breeding material. 

Required Minimum Qualifications:

High School diploma. Excellent verbal communication skills. Valid driver’s license. Willingness to travel, including overnight travel, and to work additional hours/weekends during peak periods. Must be able to do physical lifting (up to 60 lbs) and work in varying environments (heat, cold, wind, etc.). Must be able to walk throughout fields to conduct field trials. Must be able to use a plot thresher, single-plant thresher, laptop, and hand-held computer.

Preferred Qualifications:

B.S. in Agronomy or related field. Experience in agronomy, plant breeding, plant pathology, plant physiology or related field. Knowledge of multi-media tools (IPAD), Excel, Word and computer skills.

Salary Range/ Pay Rate:

$12.94-$22.00 per hour
