General Description of Position:

The Agronomy Department at Kansas State University is looking for an Assistant Scientist. The successful candidate will facilitate and help conduct soil fertility field research at multiple locations. Duties will include planting, fertilizing, spraying, sample and data collection, and harvesting field trials with corn, soybeans, wheat, sorghum and other crops. Other related duties will include, operate and maintain field equipment, collect and manage data, supervise undergraduate student workers, assist graduate students, and communicate with cooperating farmers. Duties will also include maintaining the compost site at the Agronomy Farm and contribute with related training events. The candidate will also serve as safety coordinator and point of contact for safety related issues in the department. Required Minimum Qualifications:

BS in Agronomy or related field. The candidate will be required to successfully complete safety trainings offered by the university. 

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience conducting agricultural research with small scale plot equipment; statistical analysis of research data; ability to obtain CDL. Experience with the management of by-products and compost. Computer skills including Microsoft Office; ability to work with diverse groups of people and good communication skills in English.

Physical Activities and Environmental Conditions :

Speaking, walking, running, keyboarding, sitting, repetitive movement, standing, carrying, driving, reaching and writing. Environmental conditions include: normal office environment, noise, mechanical hazards, traffic, dust/fumes, weather extremes, moving machinery/heavy equipment and chemicals.

Salary Range / Pay Rate:

$34,071 - $57,921 - $16.38-$27.85/hr
