General Description of Position: The Department of Anatomy & Physiology with the College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking applicants for a Fellow (Post Doc).  The focus of this research position is to understand the molecular mechanisms underlying organ size control and tumorigenesis, with specific emphasis on understanding the molecular mechanisms of the Hippo signaling pathway and mTOR/Insulin signaling pathway.  Potential projects will involve characterization of novel tumor suppressors we recently identified through large-scale genetic screens.  Successful candidates will study the molecular functions of these novel tumor suppressors using a multidisciplinary approach employing molecular, cellular and biochemical experimental techniques in combination with cell culture and mouse model systems.

Job Description: Designing and executing research experiments focused on cancer biology:
  • Conduct studies of related literature and research to support the design of research projects
  • Conduct molecular bench work: PCR, subcloning, protein purification, Westernblotting, histochemistry etc
  • Perform cell culture work
  • Confocal/ fluorescence microscopy analysis

Data record and analysis:

  • Report project progress and data analysis
  • Draft scientific manuscripts, prepare grants,
  • Manage project collaborations, attend conferences

Other duties:

  • Supervise technician, students, and undergraduates in the lab

  • Manage daily laboratory operations including laboratory safety, budgets, lab reagents and stocks 
Required Minimum Qualifications: PhD related to biological or biomedical sciences; strong interests in the molecular basis of cancer biology 
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in the areas of biochemistry, molecular or cellular biology.
Strong written and oral communication skills. Ability to do independent management of the project. Exceptional research productivity.

Salary Range / Pay Rate: $ 47,476 - $ 60,000 Annual Salary
