About This Role:

Kansas State Polytechnic is seeking a Director of Flight Operations to join our team. This is a full-time position that reports directly to the CEO and Dean of the campus. This position is responsible for the successful operation of the flight school.

As a Director of Flight Operations, you will be:

  • Developing the strategic plan and managing the daily operations within flight operations,
  • Overseeing the flight operations budget and personnel as well as ensuring compliance with all applicable regulatory guidelines and university policy,
  • Providing recommendations and implementations to the enhancement of the flight operations facilities, equipment, employee training and laboratory safety practices for approximately 50 staff, and
  • Overseeing the requirements to maintain FAR Part 141.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least 3 - 5 years of operating a flight school or FBO

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in aviation or closely related field
  • Broad understanding of the aviation industry, with specific experience in flight operations
  • Effective communication, organization, and administrative skills
  • Work well under high pressure and constantly changing conditions
  • Ability to collect information, analyze data, define problems, set priorities, and draw valid conclusions in a timely manner
  • Excellent computer skills: Microsoft Word and Excel especially, experience with flight operations dispatch/scheduling software preferred
  • Ability to maintain professional and harmonious relationships with diverse populations
  • Ability to meet FAA requirements for Chief Instructor at a 141 Flight School as established and set forth in Title 14 of the U.S. Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 141.35
  • FAR 141 Flight Instruction experience
  • Familiarity with foreign certification activities
  • Advanced and Instrument Ground Instructor Certificates (AGI and IGI)
  • Other flight training, certificates, and ratings including: Glider, Seaplane, Helicopter, Aerobatics, Tailwheel
  • At least 3,000 Total Flight Hours Pilot in Command or Airline Transport Pilot Certificate (ATP)

Other Requirements:

  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment
  • Minimum FAA 2nd class Flight Medical Certificate or eligible
  • No history of FAA certificate enforcement actions
  • Must be able to work varied hours during campus events and be able to respond within 30 minutes during aircraft emergencies.
  • Must pass background check

Salary Range:

$80,947-$145,704  

Please note: the minimum salary for this position is $80,947. Actual salary will be determined based on the candidate's experience, education, internal equity and departmental funding. Salary offers are typically made between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range. The range indicated includes both the typical hiring range and potential future progression.
