About This Role:

The Department of Educational and Personal Development at Kansas State University seeks a Student Services Coordinator for Educational Supportive Services (ESS).

ESS is a federally funded program designed to help students who are first-generation, income-limited and/or have a disability earn undergraduate degrees and attain their life goals.  The successful candidate will work with the ESS team to provide services to students improved class performance and find the necessary resources (academic, financial, career, etc.) on campus and in the community.  The student services coordinator will also work with the ESS team to identify and verify eligible program participants.

Duties / Responsibilities:

  • The Student Services Coordinator provides academic, personal, social, financial and career guidance and problem-solving assistance/guidance to Educational Supportive Services (ESS) students. Monitors the academic progress of ESS students. Coordinates weekly and bi-weekly academic troubleshooting for students struggling with motivation and/or meeting the on-going demand of college life.
  • Develops an Educational Development Plan for each assigned ESS student within 10 days of their admittance to the Program and review with each student at mid-semester. Advises and assists ESS students with academic support services as needed.
  • Works with Educational Support Services (ESS) staff in screening potential program participants to determine eligibility, utilizing the KSIS database. Promotes the ESS Program to campus organizations and at campus events. Works with other ESS staff to identify potential new ESS students during the new student orientation and enrollment in June.
  • Coordinates the ESS Academic Intervention Program each semester to include identifying, notifying, meeting with, and monitoring ESS-eligible students who are on academic warning.
  • The Student Services Coordinator teaches Academic Enrichment or Study Skills classes/workshops for ESS students who demonstrate a need in this area. Provides assistance to students in preparing for the GRE and applying to grad school.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree
  • Excellent management and communication skills with the ability to work effectively and foster a cooperative environment within the department and its constituencies in a diverse population.
  • Experience working with students in higher education.
  • Experience with on-line instruction.
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Experience and demonstrated proficiency in public speaking.
  • Must have initiative and strong interpersonal skills for meeting the needs of a diverse student population and for relating effectively with faculty, staff and administrators.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.  To include:  developing and editing publications, web page development/management, electronic newsletters, etc.
  • Highly self-motivated and directed, with demonstrated ability to work independently.

Salary Range/ Pay Rate:

$36,674-$56,845/$17.63-$27.33 per hour

Please note:  the minimum salary for this position is $17.63 an hour.  Actual salary will be determined based on the candidate’s experience, education, internal equity and departmental funding.  Salary offers are typically made between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range. The range indicated includes both the typical hiring range and potential future progression.
