About This Role:

The Department of Chemical Engineering at Kansas State University (K-State) invites applications for open faculty positions at any level.  All research areas will be considered, but priority will be given to candidates who build upon existing strengths and opportunities in materials or processes that address the challenges of energy supply, pollution control, health, and research at the intersection of engineering and the bio-sciences. Outstanding candidates will be considered for several open endowed positions.

NOTE: The selected candidate can expect strong professional development opportunities including competitive salaries and start-up packages, and teaching and research mentoring to ensure a successful start to their careers or transition to Kansas State University.  Several centers and multidisciplinary programs offer excellent opportunities to facilitate collaboration. Manhattan, Kansas has been selected as the future home of the National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility (NBAF).  NBAF is being built adjacent to the K State Campus at a cost of over $1.25 billion and will provide research infrastructure to protect the country’s food supply and agricultural economy. NBAF is expected to provide research opportunities for faculty members (BSL-4, http://nbafinkansas.org).  The existing Biosecurity Research Institute at Kansas State University (BSL-3, http://www.bri.ksu.edu/) complements NBAF.

The Department of Chemical Engineering at Kansas State University enrolls approximately 300 undergraduate students and 25 graduate students.  Active research and teaching programs exist in the areas of, catalysis, thermodynamics, sustainable energy, polymeric nanomaterials for drug delivery, molecular modeling, bio-interfaces, and semiconductor processing.  In FY 2016, departmental research expenditures exceeded $3.2 million with many research partners in the Colleges of Agriculture, Arts & Sciences, and other engineering units.  The College of Engineering is undergoing rapid expansion and will be hiring 35 additional faculty over the next few years.  K-State is a Land Grant University and is a Carnegie Doctoral/Research-Intensive Institution and has been ranked among the top state and private institutions of higher education in Rhodes, Marshall, Truman, Goldwater, and Udall scholars since 1986. What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Requirements:

  • BS and PhD degrees in Chemical Engineering or equivalent fields (Applications with no BS or PhD degrees in Chemical Engineering or equivalent fields are considered non-responsive)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to develop and sustain an active, externally funded research program, and effectively manage research projects and student/staff researchers
  • Qualifications to teach graduate and undergraduate courses in the chemical engineering curriculum
  • A record of achievement that merits appointment as a tenured Faculty member for those applying at the Associate Professor or Professor level

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Versatility in teaching capabilities
  • Ability to establish collaborations beyond the department and college
  • Willingness to serve the department, institution, and profession through active participation in committees and professional societies.
