About This Role:

This position is responsible for the daily audit of Health Center charges using coding expertise.

Reviews and audits charges, dates of service, CPT coding, providers of service, and diagnosis codes.  This information is reviewed within the Health Center medical software.  Performance of these tasks require expert knowledge of ICD-9-CM/ ICD-10-CM and CPT coding guidelines.

Responsible for all credentialing of medical providers which includes corresponding with insurance companies and providing appropriate information.

Coordinates all referrals as needed including acquiring pre-authorizations with insurance and making those appointments with outside entities. Release of medical record information as needed following all legal guidelines including FERPA and HIPAA. Logs all transactions in computer and in the appropriate medical record.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Two years minimum current experience with coding.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • One year clinical experience to include general office skills and computer experience.
  • Knowledge of ICD-9-CM / ICD-10-CM and CPT coding.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Able to read and understand clinic notes in patient records.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and have the ability to function under the pressure of daily work requirements.
  • The person in this position should be very dependable to ensure the efficient operation of the department and provision of quality service to our patients.

Other Requirements:

  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment
  • Must be a certified coder within six months of employment.
  • Mobility to move about the clinic rapidly to accommodate patient flow and perform necessary duties in a confined office space, must be able to function at computer station, with telephone.
  • Some variable hours during evenings and Saturdays.
