About This Role:

Serves as the public liaison and outreach coordinator for the Olathe Horticulture Center.  Coordinates and/or performs activities related to communications and marketing at the Center. Develops educational programs that help to communicate the work of K-State Research and Extension to stakeholders and the public. Acts as Center liaison to the departmental business office and provides general administrative support to the Center.  This position is critical to the effective fulfillment of the Center’s extension mission.  Any vacation leave desired to be taken during scheduled events and educational programs will have restrictions and must be approved by the Center Director or Department Head.  This position may require work at other locations or during non-typical working hours in order to staff and/or support events and marketing efforts.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s in Communications, Marketing, Horticulture, or a related field. This position may use an educational equivalency as determined relevant by a hiring manager.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and ability to develop content for educational and outreach efforts.  Ability to develop extramural-funded educational and outreach programs. Knowledge and experience with research and cooperative extension programming.  Willingness to learn new skills and work in an innovative environment. Minimum of 2 years experience in the design and development of websites, print, digital and other media.

 

Other Requirements:

  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment
  • Knowledge and ability to safely communicate with visitors in an outdoor setting (when applicable).  Ability to communicate and perform public speaking and tours as needed.  Knowledge and ability to develop websites as well as online communication through newsletters, email distribution software and social media.  Ability to perform basic administrative and scheduling duties

Salary Range/ Pay Rate:

$17.63-$27.33 per hour
