About This Role:

The Department of Agricultural Economics at Kansas State University seeks to fill a 12 month, non-tenure-track Fellow (Post Doc) position.

Area of research emphasis will be in “Assessing the Influence of Zero-Deforestation Supply-Chain Commitments on the Conservation of Ecosystems” Main responsibilities include: (1) Modeling the indirect land use effects of voluntary zero-deforestation commitments undertaken by private companies in the soy, oil palm, and cattle sectors in South America and Southeast Asia; (2) Working with a multidisciplinary team of researchers to couple a computable general equilibrium model with a high-resolution land use model to consistently track land use change across scales.

  • Gathering and pre-processing data on future economic scenarios and other variables as needed
  • Contrasting results with baselines produced by other modeling groups
  • Updating the GTAP-AEZ database as needed, including aggregations to different geographical units.
  • Taking leadership in writing journal articles and presenting work in conferences.
  • The position will involve working with a multidisciplinary team of researchers to reconcile different modeling and methodological approaches.
  • Create an environment that fosters diversity and collegiality while working in a multi-cultural setting.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in agricultural, resource, or environmental economics, or a similar field. Software carpentry skills are necessary. The candidate must have excellent written communication skills, as evidenced by written application materials.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Have a willingness to learn new methods to achieve the position’s objective
  • Self-starting and independently motivated. Ability to advance project activities with a minimum of supervision.
  • Research experience and a conceptual foundation in economic and quantitative modeling using spatially explicit data.
  • Knowledge of GEMPACK or GAMS as well as basic GIS skills are a plus.

Salary Range/ Pay Rate:

$ 47,476 - $ 50,000 annual salary
