About This Role:

The Division of Financial Services is recruiting two Accountant I positions in the General Accounting section.

One Accountant I is responsible for providing a pre-audit of time sensitive university payments through various accounts payable processes.  This position is also responsible for monitoring the progress and resolving discrepancies in systems which facilitate State of Kansas interagency funds’ transfers and university business procurement card transactions.

Duties include:

  • Responsible for pre-auditing university business procurement card activity for 800 campus business procurement cards. The review entails reconciling the statement totals to the payment vouchers submitted by the campus.
  • Serve as the primary State of Kansas interagency fund transfer coordinator.
  • Serve as a Travel Auditor for both international and complex domestic travel reimbursements. 

The other Accountant I position is responsible for the maintenance of the vendoring process that support the university  Financial Information System (FIS) and the Statewide Management, Accounting and Reporting Tool (SMART). The services performed by the position ensure the integrity of both the university and State of Kansas accounting systems, and the timely payment of vendors on behalf of the university.

Duties include:

  • Oversees the creation and maintenance of the FIS and SMART vendor systems, which are used for all university payment vouchers, and ensure accurate IRS and State tax reporting for reportable university payments.
  • Back-up for online keying and batching processing

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma and one year of relevant experience. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration
  • Bookkeeping or Accounting experience
  • Ability to key accurately with some speed
  • Ability to analyze; make recommendations for improvement and implement policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of Financial Information System (FIS) and Statewide Management, Accounting and Reporting Tool (SMART) systems
  • Ability to communicate clearly in writing and by telephone
  • Ability to interpret and explain technical and varied rules and regulations are highly desirable.
  • Prioritizing and organizational skills to meet strict deadlines

Salary Range/ Pay Rate:

$14.49 - $21.74 per hour

*Actual salary will be determined based on the candidate’s experience, education, internal equity and departmental funding.  Salary offers are typically between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range.  The range indicated includes both the typical hiring range and potential future progression.
