About This Role:

The Department of Grain Science and Industry and the IGP Institute is seeking applications for a non-tenure track, 12-month appointment, annually renewable position at the instructor level serving as a Senior Agricultural Economist and Curriculum Manager. The extension/outreach component through the IGP Institute will include development and presentation of seminars, short courses, distance courses, and other technical outreach programs to enhance the market promotion, consumption and utilization of U.S. cereal grains, oilseeds and their value-added products for the global grain, food and feed industry.

Duties include, but are not limited, to the following:

Curriculum Manager

  • Deliver educational programs, including full tailored courses and individual guest lectures as they relate to grain purchasing and risk management. Programs could include workshops, short courses, distance education courses and other technical outreach programs.
  • Manage the delivery of programs housed at the IGP Institute or abroad.
  • Design and implementation of NEW and existing educational programs domestically and internationally
  • Provide technical information on grain marketing, transportation and risk management to existing and potential international users of US grains, trade teams, and individuals visiting the IGP Institute

 Outreach Specialist

  • Represent the IGP Institute at conferences, speaking engagements, etc. related to topics from the curriculum
  • Participate in domestic and international grain related activities and conferences as requested.
  • Market the IGP Institute programs to through the appropriate channels including, but not limited to organizing booth displays for trade shows, volunteering as a technical speaker, and serving on industry committees.
  • Provide technical information on grain purchasing and risk management to international trade teams and individuals visiting the IGP Institute. 


  • Identify opportunities for research based on observations in the field and collaborate with faculty on possible projects.
  • Conduct meaningful collaborations with member of the Grain Science department related to teaching, research and outreach.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Requirements:

  • B.S. in agricultural marketing, economics, grain science, agricultural communications or a related discipline with a minimum of five years of direct experience in grain trading and marketing.
  • Experience conducting market research related to the global grain markets influencing U.S. grain exports.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach industry professionals are a must. Demonstrated people and public speaking skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Appreciation and experience interacting with international audiences and foreign cultures.
  • Ability to speak English clearly and to work in a multi-cultural setting. Strong commitment to fostering and expanding diversity and collegiality.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • International industry-related work experience, knowledge and expertise working in grain trading and marketing; conversant in multiple languages; master’s degree in agricultural marketing, economics, agribusiness, grain science or a related field.

Other Requirements:

  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment.
