About This Role:

Do you see yourself as a member of the nationally recognized faculty in the Agricultural Communications and Journalism program at Kansas State University? If so, the Department of Communications and Agricultural Education is recruiting for a 12-month tenure-track/tenured Assistant/Associate Professor. Responsibilities consist of 70% teaching and 30% research shared across the undergraduate program, the master's program and the interdisciplinary Leadership Communication Ph.D. program. Review of applications will begin September 7, 2018 with a tentative start date of January 6, 2019.



Advance and cultivate an innovative agricultural communications program that aligns, connects, and associates students with the demands of urban and rural audiences through:

  • Recruitment, teaching, and academic advising at the undergraduate, master’s and doctoral levels.
  • Academic program, curriculum management and planning.
  • Student organization advising.
  • Career counseling and industry networking to foster student placement.


Build and expand the discipline through relevant scholarly activities such as:

  • Conduct research and disseminate findings through academic and professional conferences, journals, and other channels.
  • Seek and secure extramural funding.
  • Engage in collaborative scholarship in interdisciplinary initiatives.
  • Mentor and supervise undergraduate and graduate research.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Earned doctorate degree in agricultural, environmental or science communications/journalism, communications, agricultural education or a closely related discipline.
  • Formal academic preparation and/or professional experience in print or digital media, public relations, marketing communications, advertising, graphic design, audio/video production, and/or agricultural, environmental or scientific writing.
  • For consideration at the Associate Professor level, candidate must present a demonstrated record of scholarly activity in teaching and research commensurate with the associate level.
  • Strong commitment to expanding and fostering diversity.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional experience in related disciplines, such as but not limited to production agriculture, agri-business, natural resources, or environmental sciences.

  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment
