About This Role:

The Veterans’ Student Center Coordinator (VSCC) is responsible for the development, implementation, and oversight of programs, services, and activities for the KSU military-connected community including veterans, active-duty service members, their spouses/partners, and their dependents. The VSCC will also provide oversight and coordination of the day-to-day operation of the Veterans’ Student Center and will work to enhance and grow services offered through the Veterans’ Student Center.  This is a part-time (20 hours per week), 9-month position.

Military-connected students represent 12-14% of the K-State student body and have been a continuous presence on the campus since 1863. The Veteran's Center provides resources and a military-friendly lounge/study area in the Student Union for military-connected students. Military-connected students include: Veterans, Active Duty, Guard, and Reserve service members, spouses, and dependents.

Duties / Responsibilities:

Student Services:

  • Connects military-connected students with the available student resources throughout campus.
  • Provides direct student support to military-connected students.
  • Plans, organizes, and directs on-campus programs, services, and outreach activities related to military-connected students.
  • Mentors student leaders and other students to support, design, and implement programs, special events, and services that support student success and persistence towards graduation.

Administrative:

  • Provides oversight and coordination of the day-to-day operation of the Veterans Student Center.
  • Coordinate with Communications & Marketing to create outreach information (flyers, brochures, newsletters, etc.) for distribution to internal and external stakeholders and students.
  • Responsible for administering non-traditional and military connected student scholarships including the receipt of applications, selection of recipients, and the awarding of the funds.
  • Works closely with the KSU Office of Veterans Affairs to connect students with military tuition assistance information and resources.
  • Coordinate with Communications & Marketing to create outreach information (flyers, brochures, newsletters, etc.) for distribution to internal and external stakeholders and students.

Supervision

  • Hires, trains, and supervises work of Veteran Affairs work study students, GRAs, and volunteers.
  • Processes all time sheets, performance evaluations, and terminations, if necessary.
  • Ensures adherence to VA work study guidelines.

Events, Presentations & Advising:

  • Plans, organizes, and directs on-campus programs, services, and outreach activities related to military-connected students.
  • Serve as the Veteran Student Organization Department Sponsored Organization (DSO) advisor.
  • Develops and delivers the military-connected student presentations during recruitment for new and transfer students. 

 Collaboration/Committee Work:

  • Works closely with the KSU Office of Veterans Affairs to connect students with military tuition assistance information and resources.
  • Works closely with New Student Services to enhance and assist in the recruitment of prospective military-connected students.
  • Active role in the campus Veterans Steering Committee.
  • Work with the KSU Foundation.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree and one to three years of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree

  • Military Veteran

  • Experience working with faculty/staff/students in an educational setting

  • Experience working with the military-connected population and knowledge of resources available to this population

  • Familiarity with basic VA and military tuition assistance benefits

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software

  • Solid written and verbal communication skills

  • Comfortable giving presentations

  • Ability to work with a diverse population

  • Understanding of and commitment to the KSU Principles of Community

Other Requirements:

  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment
