About This Role:

The Kansas State University School of Music, Theatre, and Dance invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty appointment in lighting and sound design to begin August 18, 2019.

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to direct a growing program and work in two recently renovated facilities with over $1.2 million of lighting infrastructure and sound reinforcement and effects system upgrades. Notable equipment includes ETC D60 Vivids, MAC Quantum Spots, Yamaha QL5 digital sound console, and Dante digital audio network.

Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate courses in lighting and sound design, creating lighting and sound designs (or supervising student designers) for a main stage season of theatre, dance and opera productions in collaboration with other faculty artists, and supervising student lighting and sound designers for second stage productions. The successful candidate will have demonstrated excellence in design and teaching, and will continue to pursue an active creative design and/or research program in lighting and/or sound design.  Additional duties may be assigned as required.

The School has 52 full-time and 2 part-time faculty members, is supported by a Director and an Associate Director for each of the three areas of Music, Theatre, and Dance, a full-time academic advisor, and by four full-time administrative staff members.

The School of Music, Theatre, and Dance is accredited by NASM and NAST and is housed within the College of Arts and Sciences, the “intellectual and academic core of the University” with 23 academic units. A land-grant institution, Kansas State University is a Carnegie “very high research” and “engaged” university with more than 4,000 students who participate in curricular and co-curricular activities offered through the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance.

Manhattan, Kansas, where Kansas State is located, is in the rolling Flint Hills of Northeast Kansas, 125 miles west of Kansas City via Interstate 70. Five miles north of the city is Tuttle Creek Reservoir, one of the largest in the Midwest. The 668-acre campus is convenient to both business and residential areas. “The Little Apple” is a classic college town with more than 56,000 residents.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Master of Fine Arts in Theatre.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated success in theatre lighting design and experience in theatrical sound design.

Other Requirements:

  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment.

Salary Range/ Pay Rate:
