About this Role:

This position will support the daily management of the analytical laboratory. These tasks include but are not limited to assisting the organization of the laboratory such as: keeping track of supplies ordered, updating daily logs such as new projects/cases received, temperature logs, chemical inventory. Part of the duties also consist in making solutions and preparing samples for diagnostic testing following SOPs in place and following AAVLD guidelines. Assisting in writing SOPs is also expected. This position will report to the Laboratory Manager.

Duties / Responsibilities:

Assist in the daily management of the analytical laboratory:

  • Ordering supplies, keeping track of packing slip and notifying in Ledger when an item is received
  • Registering chemicals in the laboratory web-base database and labeling the newly received chemicals
  • Downloading the Certificate of Analysis and SDS forms and saving them in the appropriate folders
  • Registering diagnostic cases on the laboratory paper log system as well as in the lab recording system (Access database)
  • Entering results into Vetview

Assisting in the daily quality AAVLD requirements:

  • Recording daily temperatures in the appropriate forms
  • Helping writing Standard Operating Procedures

Maintaining the laboratory:

  • Flushing the eyewash weekly
  • Cleaning the sharp containers/biohazard containing when full
  • Contacting EHS when chemical waste or medical waste has to be picked-up

Helping out in sample preparation:

  • Preparing solutions for the laboratory (ICP-MS,…)
  • Acid-digestion of samples with the microwave oven or on the heating block

Required Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Previous experience in a laboratory, preferably in chemistry
  • Organization skills, experience in quality environment (recording system)

$ 14.85 - $ 25.25 per hour
