About this Role:

The Center of Excellence for Vector-Borne Diseases (CEVBD) within the Department of Diagnostic Medicine/Pathobiology within the College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking applicants for a part-time Research Assistant Professor. The efforts of this position include support for research and training programs, fiscal monitoring, personnel management, coordination of meetings and other CEVBD-related activities, communication to stakeholders, production and publication communication materials, scheduling and related organizational matters and distribution of reports and other materials.

Duties / Responsibilities:

Research duties:

  • Conduct independent research in the research areas in line with the PI with a special focus on protein biology

Professional duties:

  • Compile the research data and organize for preparing peer-reviewed publications in scientific journals
  • Present the research results at scientific meetings where and when possible

Grant writing development duties:

  • Prepare and assist in grant applications’ development for securing additional funding in support of research on vector-borne pathogens/diseases

Mentoring duties:

  • Mentor post-doctoral associates, graduate students and other scientists in the research team
  • Following appropriate university guidelines to develop research projects and execute the research

Required Education:

Ph.D. degree in an area of biological sciences

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of five years of research experience is required after receiving a Ph.D. degree
  • Research experience must be in an area of tick-borne pathogen research with a special emphasis on rickettsial diseases, handling ticks and tick transmission studies caused by rickettsial pathogens
  • Experience must include studies focused on animal infection with ticks using the canine host, molecular studies and transcriptomic studies 
  • High level of molecular biology experience is also required
  • Evidence of published research in peer-reviewed scientific papers is essential.
  • Individual must possess excellent organizational and oral/written communication skills as well as computer skills
