About This Role:

The custodial supervisor will provide leadership and direction to a team of custodial specialist assigned with cleaning apartments, retail areas, offices, and public areas at Jardine Apartments.  The position serves as a “working supervisor” and will perform custodial tasks as needed to provide support to the team and to meet expected cleaning levels.  The team provides both housekeeping and industrial cleaning services.

  • Hires, trains, coaches, and reviews the work of custodial specialists and student employees performing industrial cleaning and housekeeping duties.  Develops and maintains a team of motivated, engaged staff to provide quality services.  Coordinates and plans work to ensure assigned work is completed on schedule and consistent with established quality standards. 
  • Inspects apartments, guest housing, offices and other areas regularly to ensure high levels of housekeeping, custodial care and basic maintenance are being provided. Submits work orders for maintenance needs.
  • Plans and coordinates work assignments and activities to include serving as departmental liaison with outside cleaning contractors providing “as needed” cleaning services for Jardine Apartments. 
  • Instructs all employees in the operation of custodial equipment and tools including carpet shampoo machine, floor scrubbers, buffing machine, proper lifting and bending procedures, correct use of cleaning chemicals and in all cleaning procedures. 
  • Selects and recommends materials, chemicals and equipment for use. Ensures staff have needed equipment and supplies when needed.
  • Conducts training sessions for residents of Jardine Apartments to educate residents in proper cleaning procedures and methods.
  • Serves as a "working supervisor" and actively participates in cleaning activities to ensure quality standards.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Requires one to three years of relevant experience. This position may use an educational equivalency as determined relevant by a hiring manager.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Lead worker/supervisory experience
  • Desire knowledge of industrial cleaning procedures applicable to apartments
  • Ability to train, plan and assign work
  • Knowledge of materials and equipment used in the housekeeping and custodial trade
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing

Other Requirements:

  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment
  • Valid driver’s license upon employment
  • Completion of KSU Introduction to Supervision program within six months of employment

Salary Range/ Pay Rate:

$12.88 - $19.33 per hour

Actual pay rate will be determined based on the candidate’s qualifications, internal equity and departmental funding. Pay rate offers are typically made between the $12.88 and $16.10 of the pay range. The range indicated includes both the typical hiring range and potential future progression.
