About this Role:

The Department of Diagnostic Medicine/Pathobiology is seeking applicants for a Research Associate. This position will be responsible for managing BSL2 and BSL3 virus laboratories. Responsibilities include supervising and assisting with research projects, performing and assisting others with lab techniques, ordering laboratory supplies, and overseeing laboratory personnel.

Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Manage BSL2 and BSL3 virus laboratories to include: writing and maintaining SOPs, detailed lab notebook, and detailed compliance records. Manage microbial detection array testing through KSVDL, including management of testing supplies, performing testing, data analysis and interpretation, and assisting with manuscript and proposal preparation.
  • Supervision and teaching of technicians, undergraduates and related personnel. Management and participation in swine trials, to include organizing and scheduling of personnel performing daily health evaluations, sample collection, and sample processing. Maintain detailed daily medical and other data records from animal studies.
  • Perform and assist others with laboratory techniques to include: PCR/RT-PCR, recombinant DNA techniques, protein expression in bacterial and eukaryotic systems, DNA/RNA/peptide sequence alignment and analysis, viral titrations and challenge inoculum preparation, processing of fecal material, and statistical analysis.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in related field
  • Two years of relevant work experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Biology, Microbiology, Pathobiology or related field
  • Ability to use hardware and software specific to assigned lab duties
  • Previous knowledge, experience, and skills in the development of diagnostic assays and a track record of publication in high quality journals is preferred
  • Experience and skills in overseeing research projects, as well as good analytical skills
  • Familiar with experimental design techniques, data analysis, proposal preparation and manuscript preparation
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written

$ 44,150 - $ 77,250 annual salary
