About This Role: 

The K-State Center for Child Development, a nationally accredited early childhood program, is seeking a highly enthusiastic Assistant Teacher to join a team of thirty other dedicated early learning educators.

The Center is licensed by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment to serve 230 children, ages 6 weeks to 12 years. During the academic year, the center provides care for children 6 weeks to 5 years of age. During the summer months, the center offers a Summer Camp for Kindergartners to the age of 12.

Duties / Responsibilities: 

This position provides support to a Lead Teacher in the areas of designing, planning and leading activities for children. Ensures a clean, safe environment for all children in attendance. Communicates with teaching staff, parents and administrators regarding issues that concern children. Requires substantial contact with children, parents and other staff in order to facilitate a safe, educational and stimulating environment. 

What You’ll Need to Succeed: 

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Requires a high school diploma and the following credentials: five sessions of observation for not less than two and one-half consecutive hours per observation in licensed preschools or child care centers with one year teaching experience in a licensed center or preschool, or one year of supervised practicum in licensed center or preschool. 


  • Seven to nine semester hours of academic credit or equivalent training in child development or early childhood education and three months teaching experience in a licensed center or preschool, or one year of supervised practicum in licensed center or preschool. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Ability to remain on feet for long periods of time, stoop and bend throughout the work shift and sit on the floor.

  • Work inside and outside under varying work and climatic conditions. 

  • Ability to be flexible with work schedule. 

  • Ability to work under pressure and with distractions; must be able to effectively communicate with peers, ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing with general public and individuals at all levels within organization.  

  • Ability to develop positive relationships with parents and peers. 

Other Requirements: 

  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment. 

  • Ability to Pass KBI Background Check, Physical and TB Test. A criminal background check will be required for the candidate selected for hire.  

  • Ability to lift/move items up to 50 pounds unassisted on a repetitive basis, daily.
