About This Role:

The Extension Nutrition Educator will provide nutrition education to low-income families, adults and youth as part of the goals and objectives of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education (SNAP-Ed) in East Central Kansas. This position is based in Paola, KS and requires travel connected with official duties, including attendance at some night meetings and participation in out-of-county events. This part-time position will be 3 days (24 hours) per week.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  1. Plan, develop, coordinate and deliver nutrition education programming to limited resource families using agreed upon program delivery methods, materials, and evaluation instruments.
  2. Develop partnerships and collaborate with local service agencies, school districts and community agencies, particularly relating to follow through with agency referrals and recruitment activities.
  3. Participate in local community coalitions/collaborations that would benefit nutrition education of limited resource clients and promote overall health and wellness in the area.
  4. Gather data and compile SNAP-Ed reports and records for submission to the state office. Attend SNAP-Ed trainings.
  5. Other duties as assigned.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree with preference given to a degree in Nutrition, Family and Consumer Sciences, Education or closely related field.  Experience in adult and/or K-12 teaching can be substituted for some formal training in nutrition.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in adult and/or K-12 teaching
• Knowledge of low income audiences and subject matter.
• Leadership, organizational, teamwork and people skills.
• Experience working with diverse populations.
• Demonstrated leadership skills in delivery of educational programs.
• Experience working with programming and/or education that promotes behavioral change as it relates to healthy eating and lifestyles.

Other Requirements:

  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment
  • A valid Kansas driver’s licence, car insurance and reliable transportation
  • Capable of lifting, moving and transporting equipment and supplies.

Salary Range/ Pay Rate:

$ 11.71 - $ 17.57 per hour

Additional compensation includes mileage reimbursement from reporting location to program sites in the counties.  A benefits package, including health insurance, accompanies this position.
