About This Role:

The Extension Nutrition Assistant will provide nutrition education to low-income families, adults and youth as part of the goals and objectives of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education (SNAP-Ed) in East Central Kansas. This position is based in Paola, KS and requires travel connected with official duties, including attendance at some evening meetings, participation in occasional out-of-county events/training, access to a personal vehicle, and ability to obtain/maintain a valid Kansas Driver’s License. This part-time position will be 3 days (24 hours) per week.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  1. Coordinate and deliver nutrition education programming to limited resource audiences (adults and youth) using agreed upon program delivery methods, materials, and evaluation instruments.
  2. Collaborate with local service agencies, school districts and community organizations to schedule programming and cultivate opportunities for future programming.
  3. Participate in local community collaborations that benefit the nutrition education of limited resource clients, promote overall health and wellness in the area, and work toward the possibility of new community partnerships.
  4. Gather data and compile SNAP-Ed reports and records for submission to the state office. Attend SNAP-Ed training.
  5. Other duties as assigned.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School diploma

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in Nutrition, Health, Education or related field is preferred
  • Leadership, organizational, teamwork and people skills
  • Experience working with diverse populations
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in delivery of educational programs
  • Knowledge of low income audiences
  • Experience working with programming and/or education that promotes behavioral change as it relates to healthy eating and lifestyles

Other Requirements:

  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment
  • A valid Kansas driver’s licence, car insurance and reliable transportation
  • Capable of lifting, moving and transporting  40 lbs. equipment and supplies

Salary Range/ Pay Rate:

$12.50 per hour. 

Additional compensation includes mileage reimbursement from reporting location to program sites in the counties.
