Major responsibility is to oversee and conduct research in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling of fumigant movement in grain storage bins and piles and discrete element method (DEM) modeling of particle movement during grain handling operations. The computational fluid dynamics (CFD) models that are developed will be used to evaluate improvements to fumigation protocols to increase the effectiveness of stored grain fumigations. Additional duties involve measuring fumigant levels during fumigations of grain and measuring particle flow during grain handling operations. Measured fumigant levels and particle flow characteristics will be incorporated into databases that will be used to validate the computer models. Prepare reports and publications. Assist undergraduate and graduate students in their research. Assist other researchers with using the models for related research purposes.
