About This Role:

The Department of Grain Science and Industry and the IGP Institute is seeking applications for a Distance Education Associate. This position is a full time, 12- month appointment, term contract, renewable annually. The primary objective is to support the distance education professional development teams across local, national and international organizations.


This position facilitates the delivery and development of professional non-credit courses, programs and professional development credentials. This position works closely with the external stakeholders including Grain Elevator and Processing Society (GEAPS), American Feed Industry Association (AFIA) and International Association of Operative Millers (IAOM) as well as academic and other industry partners.


This position will support participants, the Canvas Learning Management system and the content development process. Frequent communication with domestic and international participants throughout the course session(s) is expected. Communication will be through email, phone or Zoom web conference.

The mission of the IGP Institute is to offer innovative technical programs to enhance the market preference, consumption and utilization of U.S. cereal grains, oilseeds and their value-added products for the global grain industry. To meet this mission, course offerings are led by KSU faculty and industry professionals in the areas of flour milling and grain processing, grain marketing and risk management, and feed manufacturing and grain management. Along with on-campus trainings, our faculty lead customized on-location workshops as well as distance education courses.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma and two years of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Confidence with investigating and troubleshooting technology issues
  • Ability to adjust project priorities based on technology issues and deadlines
  • Ability to operate audio and visual equipment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Customer service oriented with ability to work independently
  • Appreciation and comfort interacting with international audiences and foreign cultures
  • Ability to speak English clearly and to work in a multi-cultural setting
  • Strong commitment to fostering and expanding diversity and collegiality
  • Knowledge of general agriculture systems and processes
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time
  • Experience using a variety of technology: Navigation of various Internet browsers, Canvas administrator role, Canvas Catalog, Zoom web conferencing, Qualtrics administrator, Microsoft Office Suite, Articulate, Camtasia, Mediasite, Dropbox
  • BS in adult education, education, educational media, human resources, instructional design or similar and two or more years supporting professional development production activities
  • Higher than average skills with Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to modify basic HTML and CSS code
  • Create videos or recordings with markers in Camtasia and render product files
  • Maintain participant data for use in marketing and communication
  • Conversant in multiple languages


Other Requirements:

    • Valid driver’s license upon employment
    • Ability to complete KSU passenger van training and drive on-site participants, if needed
    • Travel: less than 5%
