Fellow (Post Doc) Manhattan, Kansas On-site requirement
We seek an enthusiastic colleague to help lead an experiment co-designed by The Nature Conservancy and researchers at Kansas State University. The experiment will assess the effectiveness of “virtual fence” technology to control cattle grazing locations with the aim of improving conditions for grassland birds, and improving stream health including water quality, stream macroinvertebrates, and streamside vegetation. The post-doctoral fellow will be jointly supervised by Dr. Alice Boyle and Dr. Walter Dodds (K-State Biology) and collaborate closely with Tony Capizzo (The Nature Conservancy; Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve) and managers from the partner ranch.

The full-time Postdoctoral Research Associate will be an integral part of the Northwest Agronomy team at the Kansas State University Northwest Research-Extension Center, Colby, Kansas. This individual will have leadership responsibilities for the day-to-day operations of multiple research projects that are focused on improving nitrogen use efficiency in dryland cropping systems and reducing nitrogen losses to N2O greenhouse gas emissions and NH3 volatilization. These projects are part of a DOE supported SmartFarm project and a FFAR AgMission project. This individual will take a lead role in the analysis and publication of data resulting from the many aspects of these projects while also being involved in field operations. In addition, the individual will have the opportunity to become involved with a diverse set of projects that include corn, sorghum, wheat, dry beans/pulses, cotton, and other crops in the context of dryland and limited irrigation production systems. Opportunities for involvement could include field operations and data collection, data processing and analysis, publication of peer-reviewed manuscripts, and grant submissions.

The postdoctoral researcher will work on two DOE-funded projects. The first project focuses on developing proton ceramic electrochemical membrane reactors for co-generation of power and high-value chemicals from natural gas. The second project focuses on developing proton ceramic electrochemical membrane reactors for converting natural gas to low-carbon hydrogen.

Sorghum fermented products will be used to mitigate stress, inflammatory, and behavioral responses in adult pigs that must have restricted feed intake to maintain a healthy body weight or reduce weight after becoming overweight. This position is full-time, exempt (salaried), term position.
