About This Role:

The Kansas State University’s Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Collaborative Research on Sustainable Intensification (SIIL) is seeking applications for a dynamic and proactive team member to support communication needs of our expanding programs. SIIL functions as the Management Entity for this United States Agency for International Development (USAID) funded project, supporting a country directed research portfolio of projects on sustainable intensification in seven focus countries, namely Bangladesh, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Ethiopia, Malawi, Senegal, and Tanzania. The SIIL has been in operation since 2014, and has continued to grow and expand its operations. The Public Information Officer (PIO) position is essential to SIIL’s continued success, especially as our coordination and communication needs have become more sophisticated.  This position plays a major role in implementing SIIL’s knowledge management and communication strategies, including developing success stories and social media content from project activities, utilizing social media platforms for effective outreach, and possessing exceptional scientific writing and video design skills.

Why Join Us:

SIIL aims to become the global leader in transdisciplinary research, knowledge sharing, and capacity building, using sustainable intensification as a way to improve global food and nutritional security. Our various consortia, such as the Geospatial and Farming Systems Research Consortium, the Appropriate Scale Mechanization Consortium, the Policy Research Consortium, and the SOILS Consortium with International Fertilizer Development Center (IFDC) support this vision.  As mentioned, the SIIL supports research in seven focus countries (Senegal, Burkina Faso, Malawi, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Bangladesh, and Cambodia) through subawards that enable the development and promotion of sustainable intensification practices. In addition, we established a Center of Excellence on Sustainable Agricultural Intensification and Nutrition (CE SAIN) at Royal University of Agriculture in Cambodia, and developed the Sustainable Intensification Assessment Framework to quantify the impact of sustainable intensification practices across multiple domains: productivity, economic, environmental, human, and social. The SIIL also works in collaboration with the American Soybean Association’s – Commercialization of Aquaculture for Sustainable Trade (CAST) initiative in Cambodia. As evidenced by these initiatives, the SIIL continues to expand and grow in exciting and innovative ways and we are looking for a key individual to join our team to lead our communication efforts and proactively share the results from our investments.
