About This Role:

We are looking for a highly motivated, well-versed video communicator to join our Department. The Video Production Specialist position exists to manage information to strategically communicate the impact of K-State Research and Extension (KSRE) programs and research efforts to the public and targeted opinion leaders. Specifically, the incumbent in this position will create digital media content using best practices for communication and marketing. The incumbent will collaborate to promote extensive and coordinated communication support for KSRE and the College of Agriculture.


Recommend, develop and implement research-driven strategic marketing and communication plans for K-State Research and Extension (KSRE) and the College of Agriculture.

Coordinate the creation of digital content for KSRE social media accounts, website, blogs and e-newsletters. Content should promote the work of researchers and extension professionals and boost brand awareness.

Monitor metrics and media channels to evaluate content impact, reach and key performance indicators. Hone messaging effectiveness to maximize audience engagement.

Serve as a subject-matter specialist in video production, teaching social and digital media communication skills to KSRE and College of Agriculture faculty and staff. Stay current with technologies and trends in digital media, communication tools and applications. Provide training in vidoe production and social media integration, usage and metrics to KSRE staff members on campus and throughout the state.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Requirements:

  • One to three years of video production experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, marketing, communication or related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in communications field.
  • Demonstrable experience creating short, fast-turnaround videos for social media; news packages; high concept marketing videos; "how-to" explainer videos.
  • Expertise creating videos with Adobe Premiere.
  • Deep knowledge of web-based video and social media analytics and SEO.
  • Demonstrated ability to strategically develop implementation plans with strong follow-through and measurable results.
  • Maintain a publicly viewable portfolio website with examples of news packages, marketing videos, how-to videos and short-form videos tailored to social media platforms.
  • Experience working in television, a communications and marketing agency or similar professional communications environment. 
  • Experience creating 2D and 3D animation.
  • Experience creating and teaching content creation in Adobe Spark, Premiere, Rush, Audition, Photoshop and Illustrator.
  • Experience in a university environment, preferably a land-grant university.
  • Experience directing students.
  • Knowledge of current agricultural practices and the land-grant mission.
  • Experience with developing, implementing and monitoring organizational brand(s) and ensuring brand consistency.
  • Experience with multi-platform communications, including writing in Associated Press style; audio production and editing; photography; desktop publishing using the Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Experience with social media tools, web design and blogging platforms.

Salary Range/ Pay Rate:

$38,160-$59,140 ($18.35-$28.43 per hour)

Actual salary will be determined based on the candidate's experience, education, internal equity and departmental funding. Salary offers are typically made between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range. The range indicated includes both the typical hiring range and potential future progression.
