About This Role:

K-State Research and Extension is recruiting for the position of Associate Director for Extension Programs in Manhattan, Kansas. This is a regular 12-month, tenure or non-tenure position.

 

The Associate Director for Extension Programs is a senior member of the K-State Research and Extension Administration Team and reports directly to the Director for Extension. The Associate Director for Extension Programs provides programmatic leadership to the core areas of extension programs. Working with an associate program leader and program leader coordinators (PLCs) in agriculture and natural resources, family and consumer sciences, community vitality, and youth development, the Associate Director for Extension Programs, identifies cross program and trans-disciplinary needs and priorities, writes grants and programmatic proposals, develops implementation plans, delivers training, and supports evaluation and impact reporting. The Associate Director for Extension Programs also directly or co-supervises all specialists not associated with a campus department. In addition, the Associate Director for Extension Programs collaborates with stakeholders at Kansas State University, across Kansas, and nationally to address the grand challenges of Kansas.

 

The successful candidate must have a passion for Extension, leadership, and the skill and experience necessary to administer our entire portfolio of Extension programs, including directing federal, state, and externally funded or mandated programs administered by K-State Research and Extension. Such programs include, but are not limited to, SNAP ED, the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program, Kansas Agriculture Mediation Services, the Kansas PRIDE Program, the Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education Program, the Dane Hansen Northwest Kansas Community Vitality Program, and programs funded by the Renewable Resources Extension Act and the Community Health Endowment.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Earned PhD or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated communication skills.
  • Experience with budget management.
  • Position will require a willingness to travel and work nights and weekends as needed.
  • Understanding of different multicultural and socioeconomic audiences and a commitment to developing and delivering both inclusive and targeted programming.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Academic training or professional experience in administration, budgeting, personnel supervision, program development and program evaluation.
  • Professional experience in Cooperative Extension of at least 5 years.
  • Experience developing and delivering extension or outreach programming in the areas of agriculture and natural resources, family and consumer sciences, community vitality or youth development.
  • Ability to utilize electronic and online technologies for innovative educational program delivery.
  • Understanding of and experience in fostering an environment of interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary programming.
  • Proven success in acquiring and managing external funding and resources, such as grants, partnerships, and/or philanthropic funding.
