About This Role:

The Department of Apparel, Textiles, and Interior Design in the College of Health and Human Sciences at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas, is currently seeking a 9-month Instructor or Teaching Assistant Professor to teach undergraduate studios and courses focused on construction and building systems using current computer-based software in the Interior Design (ID) Program. This position has the potential for promotion into an assistant professor tenure-track position for a qualified candidate.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Working in collaboration with the current ID faculty to participate in and lead studio and classroom instruction in a team-oriented curriculum
  • Assessment of student learning outcomes
  • Standard course management responsibilities (grading, maintaining syllabus, reporting grades, etc.)
  • Participate in regular faculty meetings as well as college and university events such as open house, student award ceremonies, student and alumni events, and commencement

The department offers B.S. degrees in Apparel and Textiles (with specializations in Apparel Design and Production or Apparel Marketing) and Interior Design. The graduate program offers resident Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in Apparel and Textiles and a distance M.S. degree in Merchandising through the Great Plains Interactive Distance Education Alliance (GPIDEA). The department has well-equipped design and research laboratories and is home to the KSU Historic Costume & Textile Museum. Department programs are accredited through the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA), the Textile and Apparel Programs Accreditation Commission (TAPAC), and the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD). The College of Health and Human Sciences is home to five departments (Apparel, Textiles, and Interior Design; Food, Nutrition, Dietetics, and Health; Hospitality Management; Kinesiology; and the School of Family Studies and Human Services) and three academic units (Interdisciplinary Program in Gerontology, Family and Consumer Sciences Education, and General Human Ecology Studies). Minimum Requirements:  Required qualifications can include the following combinations of education, licensure/certification and professional practice experience to be considered for the position:

  1. Master’s degree in Interior Design or closely related field (earned by the time of appointment, no later than August 2020) and a minimum three years of full-time professional interior design/architectural practice experience, OR
  2. First professional degree in Interior Design or closely related field, a minimum seven years of professional practice in the design field, active NCIDQ certification or professional license, and experience with university/college teaching
