About This Role:

Design | Open Specialization
The appointment will be at the rank of assistant professor and salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications. The successful candidate will teach two courses per semester - an architectural design studio and either a required lecture or elective seminar in her or his area of expertise.

The successful candidate will demonstrate interest and ability to teach architectural design studios across the curriculum. Entry-level studios require the ability to teach fundamental design skills, including spatial and formal composition, graphics, and modeling techniques, while upper-level studios require the ability to teach the design and technical skills necessary to resolve and document architectural intent from the urban scale to the detail. She or he will demonstrate proficiency in design and visualization software and the capability of integrating this technology into her or his design studio teaching. Demonstrated excellence in teaching architectural design studios and the capability of serving in a design studio leadership role are preferred.

The successful candidate will demonstrate interest and ability to develop and teach lectures and seminars in one or more required areas of our curriculum. Preferably, she or he will demonstrate the capability to develop and teach a large lecture course that is a survey of architectural theory. In addition, the successful candidate will demonstrate interest and ability to develop and teach an elective seminar in her or his area of expertise and will develop a scholarly/creative agenda related to this expertise.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Required Qualifications: 

  • Terminal professional degree in Architecture (MArch or equivalent).
  • Professional practice experience in architecture sufficient to have fulfilled the internship requirement for licensure.
  • Interest and ability to teach architectural design studios across the curriculum.
  • Proficiency in design and visualization software and the capability of integrating this technology into her or his design studio teaching.
  • Interest and ability to develop and teach an elective seminar in her or his area of expertise.
  • Interest and ability to develop a scholarly/creative agenda related to her or his area of expertise.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Extensive professional practice experience in architecture.
  • Architectural license or PhD in Architecture.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching architectural design studios and the capability of serving in a design studio leadership role.
  • Capability to develop and teach a large lecture course that is a survey of architectural theory.
  • Established scholarly/creative agenda.
  • Record of academic and professional service.
