About This Role:

 

 

The Journalism Education Association, a professional organization of scholastic journalism teachers whose national headquarters has been at Kansas State University since 1987, is seeking an assistant director to help manage its $1 million budget, help oversee a staff of three employees, and help plan and execute two semiannual national conventions with attendance of 3,000-6,000 each. The assistant director is responsible for the organization’s communication strategy and implementation as well as the management of programming and project-based functions to execute the national conventions. The assistant director will represent the organization to the public in official communication through a wide range of platforms, including social media, e-newsletters, printed collateral and more. The position has the authority to act on the organization leadership's behalf when necessary. The assistant director will also influence the strategic plan of the organization with input and guidance from past professional experiences that help benefit members and the association. As one of the leaders of the organization, stewardship of the nonprofit’s mission is central to all decisions.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (communications, journalism, marketing or business related field)
  • Five years relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree
  • Nonprofit Management experience
  • Previous supervisory experience

Other Requirements:

  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment
