About This Role:

The College of Veterinary Medicine at Kansas State University seeks a clinical or tenure Track assistant professor to serve as the Clinical Skills Coordinator who will provide leadership and strategic direction in the coordination, instruction, and refinement of a longitudinal clinical skills curriculum for 1st and 2nd year veterinary students.  This individual will work collaboratively with faculty and staff to foster a culture of excellence in clinical skills training and assessment of K-State veterinary students. 

Opportunities may exist for the individual to participate in clinical service or rounds sessions within the Veterinary Health Center at K-State to maintain clinical acumen and proficiency. As a clinical track position, there is a minor expectation of independent or collaborative research or scholarly activity. 

Opportunity for a tenure track position is possible for an exceptional candidate with a desire for more substantial scholarly activity. 

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and teach core clinical skills courses in the 1st and 2nd year of the veterinary curriculum.
  • Collaborate with college leadership and faculty to ensure horizontal and vertical integration of the clinical skills curriculum across the continuum of the professional veterinary degree program.
  • Participate in programs and professional organizations to assure improvement, innovation, and application of best practices for clinical skills education.
  • Manage the inventory of equipment, supplies, hardware, and software systems utilized within the clinical skills curriculum.
  • Assist with development and management of the clinical skills curriculum budget.
  • Direct or collaborate in scholarship activities pertaining to K-State CVM clinical skills curriculum by conducting and/or participating in scholarly activities to further the institution's contributions to veterinary education.
  • As the lead faculty member for clinical skills curriculum (Y1 and Y2), faculty responsibilities include development and refinement of student assignments, assessments, tracking student performance and generation of final course grades.  
  • Collaborate with relevant faculty, educational committees and offices on matters regarding clinical skills course schedule, content, curriculum mapping and review/evaluation.
  • Oversee clinical skills curriculum support staff.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Requirements:

  • DVM or equivalent degree and eligibility for faculty veterinary licensure in the State of Kansas is required
  • At least three years of clinical practice experience is required with preference for multi-species practice experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced (Master’s or Doctoral) degree in health professions education or related field
  • Board certification in a veterinary specialty college
  • Experience in the education of veterinary students and/or graduate trainees in clinical settings
  • Understanding of educational pedagogy as it relates to the clinical sciences
  • Experience in educational research and/or scholarship

Other Requirements:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and proven ability to work effectively with members of an academic community
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team
  • Strong self-motivational, organizational, and managerial skills
