About This Role:

The purpose of this position is to provide research support in the form a post-doc to support research efforts aimed at identifying and characterizing sorghum phenolics and their bioactivity and how food processing impacts phenolic compounds and their activity.

Conduct research characterizing and analyzing phenolic compounds in sorghum grain and sorghum based food products. As part of this research, the candidate will be responsible for optimizing extraction of sorghum phenolic compounds, analyzing and identifying compounds present in extracts using techniques such as high-performance liquid chromatography, mass-spec and other forms of spectroscopy, bioactivity assays, etc.  Research on protein-phenolic interactions and their effect on bioactivity will also be investigated as well as the effect of processing (milling, baking, cooking, etc.) on sorghum phenolic chemistry and activity. Overall, the researcher will be responsible to conduct related experiments, collect and curate experimental data, statistical analysis, assist in preparation of scientific articles, project update reports and project proposals

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Requirements:

  • PhD in Biology, Biotechnology, Chemistry, or Food Science

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in multi-disciplinary research projects
  • Independent research conduct
  • Published scientific articles in the peer-reviewed journals in the last 3 years
  • Analytical experience with HPLC, LC-MS, gel electrophoresis, protein purification, phenolic chemistry, bioactive compounds.
  • Experience identifying novel polyphenol compounds is preferred.
  • Experience in cancer/immunology models (cell/animal) is a plus but not required.

Other Requirements:

  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment
