About This Role:

The Department of Animal Sciences and Industry is the largest department (more than 1,200 undergraduates and approximately 100 graduate students) in Kansas State University’s College of Agriculture. We are seeking applicants for a 12-month, tenure-track position (60% Research, 40% Teaching). The position will be at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor and located in Manhattan, KS. The successful individual will be expected to develop a nationally recognized, externally-funded research program in dairy nutrition and contribute to the core missions of the department involving undergraduate and graduate teaching and research activities. Participation in interdisciplinary efforts to enhance the Department’s research in focus areas including nutrition, breeding, genetics, reproductive physiology, and food science is strongly encouraged. Teaching and mentoring responsibilities will be consistent with the successful individual’s expertise, interests, and needs of the Department. It is expected that the successful candidate will develop a dynamic graduate training program.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Position Description and Responsibilities:  The successful individual will:

  • Develop and maintain a high quality, extramurally funded, research program in dairy cattle nutrition
  • Direct M.S. and Ph.D. graduate programs
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the area of ruminant nutrition and management
  • Advise undergraduate students and student organizations
  • Complete other tasks as necessary to support the overall mission of the department
  • Work in a diverse and multicultural environment by fostering diversity and teamwork

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Ph.D. degree (at time of employment) with an emphasis on Dairy Cattle Nutrition
  • Ability to develop a research program and garner extramural funding in dairy cattle nutrition
  • Ability and willingness to teach and advise graduate and undergraduate students
  • Practical knowledge and experience with modern U.S. dairy operations

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to incorporate Kansas dairies in applied research efforts
  • Proven academic publication record that is consistent with experience level
  • Ability and enthusiasm to teach nutrition courses such as Fundamentals of Nutrition and Dairy Nutrition
  • Demonstrated evidence of being a successful team member and leader, including the ability to collaborate with and lead a diverse team of colleagues, staff, students, and dairy industry stakeholders
  • Desire and ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment and advance the University’s commitment to collegiality, diversity, and inclusivity
