About This Role:

The Department of Animal Sciences and Industry is the largest department (more than 1,200 undergraduates and approximately 100 graduate students) in Kansas State University’s College of Agriculture. We are seeking applicants for a 12-month, tenure-track position (70% Extension, 30% Research). The position will be at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor and located in Manhattan, KS. The successful individual is expected to develop an innovative extension and dairy research program addressing issues facing the Kansas and U.S. dairy industry in addition to contributing to the core missions of the Department. Participation in interdisciplinary efforts to enhance the Department’s research in focus areas including nutrition, breeding, genetics, reproductive or lactation physiology, and food science is strongly encouraged. Research efforts will be consistent with the successful individual’s expertise, interests, and needs of the Department.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Position Description and Responsibilities:  The successful individual will:

  • Develop and maintain high-quality and innovative dairy extension and research programs
  • Direct M.S. and Ph.D. graduate programs
  • Provide leadership and participate in team-oriented extension and research programs and other programs for 4-H and youth
  • Foster relationships with organizations and leaders in the Kansas and U. S. dairy industry, which will include travel to farms and meetings
  • Complete other tasks as necessary to support the overall mission of the Department
  • Work in a diverse and multicultural environment by fostering diversity and teamwork


Minimum Requirements:

  • Ph.D. or D.V.M. degree (at time of employment) with an emphasis on dairy cattle
  • Practical knowledge and experience with dairy cattle and modern U.S. dairy operations
  • Committed to develop an effective and impactful extension program
  • Ability and desire to develop a research program, garner extramural funding, and train graduate students


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to incorporate Kansas dairies in applied research efforts
  • Proven academic publication record that is consistent with experience level
  • Ability and enthusiasm to communicate effectively with clientele, extension agents, faculty, and support personnel in written form, websites, and oral presentations
  • Ability to create, communicate, and conduct educational programs with adults and youth
  • Desire and ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment and advance the University’s commitment to collegiality, diversity, and inclusivity

Other Requirements:

  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment
