About this Role:

The Department of Diagnostic Medicine/Pathobiology within the College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking applicants for a Research Assistant or Research Associate to support the recently funded projects from federal and foundation sources and also to get involved in the Center of Excellence for Vector-Borne Diseases (CEVBD). This position will work with newly developed research projects with the intended goal of generating preliminary data needed for the future grant proposals.

Duties / Responsibilities:

At the Research Assistant level: Assist and work with cell culture and molecular biology experiments as per the established protocols available in the program at CEVBD. This candidate will also support in gathering data for the accurate documentation. He/she will also assist other technical staff in performing similar experiments and in experiments involving animal studies. This person reports to the assigned supervisor.

At the level of Research Associate: Independently perform cell culture and molecular biology experiments as directed by a senior member of the research team and will complement the research tasks planned to support the research projects in place. The candidate will also be responsible in identifying the experimental protocols independently by studying the published literature, then conduct the experiments with a high level of independence, analyze the research results and share with the CEVBD director for the purpose of developing scientific publications and in preparing progress reports for the funded research grants. This position reports to the designated senior administrator. Requires a master’s degree in any discipline of biology and with two years of relevant research experience.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Research Assistant: Bachelor's Degree
  • Research Associate: Masters Degree in any area of biology/microbiology and two years of experience in cell culture, molecular biology, immunology, protein studies or vivo studies with obligate bacteria

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in any area of biology/microbiology
  • Prior research experience in any field of biology

Other Requirements:

Salary Range / Pay Rate:

$ 36,240 - $ 40,000 annual salary for Research Assistant

$ 46,030 - $ 55,000 annual salary for Research Associate
