About This Role:

Kansas State Polytechnic seeks temporary Safety and Security Officers to join its Security team in providing 24-hour coverage for the campus.

These positions will:

  • Patrol and monitor campus buildings and grounds by foot and vehicle
  • Check for hazards and safety problems
  • Lock and unlock campus buildings
  • Monitor vehicles on campus to check for suspicious vehicles, lost or stolen plates & vehicles, and reports violations
  • Direct traffic when necessary
  • Enforce parking regulations
  • Collect, compile and compose information to write security reports.
  • Attend training on safety and security procedures
  • Respond to emergency calls
  • Perform various miscellaneous duties as required

Work shift: 12-hour shifts (example: midnight to noon, or noon to midnight) on Saturdays/Sundays; May also be asked to provide coverage on weekdays and holidays as needed.

These positions are limited to working up to 999 hours within a year starting from the effective date of appointment. The positions do not include benefits.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires a high school diploma

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in security or related field
  • Knowledge of rules & regulations pertaining to the use of K-State Polytechnic buildings
  • Able to detect suspicious conditions
  • Good oral communication skills: must be able to write a report in a clear & concise manner
  • Thorough knowledge of standard methods & practices used in safeguarding buildings & premises including fire prevention & health & safety practices
  • Ability to compile comprehensive reports of activities pertaining to safety & security
  • Computer skills

Other Requirements:

  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment
  • Valid driver’s license upon employment and must maintain it.
  • Must undergo a background investigation to include a fingerprint search of local, state, and federal files to determine whether a criminal record exists; Must not have been convicted of any state or federal crime or its equivalent; Must be of good moral character.
  • Once employed, CPR and First Aid training will be required and must be maintained. Must have the ability to use fire extinguishers, pepper spray, and other safety and security equipment as needed.
  • Work requires moderate physical exertion in transporting items up to 50 pounds, on occasion, i.e.: fire extinguishers, ice melt; Ability to work varied hours, walk long distances, and remain on feet for an extended period of time.

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range:

$13.70 - $15.30 per hour, depending on qualifications

Eligible for shift differential of $.40/hour for after-hour shifts
