About This Role:

The Department of Sociology, Anthropology and Social Work within the College of Arts & Sciences is hiring for a Research Associate. This role is expected to perform duties in line with the goal of the program. Duties of this role include:

  • Perform archaeological inventory surveys and site assessments in accordance with Sections 110 and 106 of the NHPA and 36 CFR Part 800
  • Perform GIS-related duties in support of the Cultural Resources Program.
  • Collection, downloading, and analysis of data using the total station and GPS mapping equipment, as well as instrument compatible software.
  • Work with engineers, designers, planners and trainers to evaluate construction and ground disturbing activities that are taking place on Fort Riley as an archaeological monitor.
  • Participate in outreach programming related to the Fort Riley CRM Program.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Masters Degree in Anthropology or Archaeology
  • 2 Years of relevant experience
  • Training in GIS and ArcGIS software

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Three years experience in Great Plains archaeology, cultural resource management, Geographic Information System (GIS) software, and Global Positioning System equipment (GPS) in support of archaeological documentation
  • Prior experience in the archaeology of Kansas, specifically the Flint Hills region, including State of Kansas site inventory records

Other Requirements:

  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment
  • Valid driver's license upon employment
  • Lifting requirements are up to 50 pounds
  • Equipment used: Field vehicles (including UTV and trailer), shovels and hand digging tools, GPS receivers, total station, digital camera as well as other archaeological field, mapping, and recording equipment. Computers, calipers as well as other laboratory, analytical, data management, and writing equipment.

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range:

$46,951-$49,500 annually
