About This Role:

The Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Business Operations and Planning serves as a senior leader in the Office of University Operations, reporting to the Vice President for University Operations, Chief Operating Officer (COO). This role advises and provides strategic counsel to the President, Provost, Vice Presidents and other senior-level leaders on financial and personnel planning in pursuit of unit and university strategic goals.  Collaborates on and implements strategic initiatives for units supported by the ASC. 

The AVP is also responsible for overseeing and setting the strategic vision of the ASC; the university shared services center that provides budget, financial, and administrative, human resource services to central administrative units. Currently, the ASC supports the President's Office, Provost Office, and most Vice President offices for the university.

The ASC comprises 24 employees who report to the Director of the ASC. The Director is a direct report to the AVP.

What You'll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and seven years of relevant experience including: executive-level budget, financial and personnel planning and management for senior-level executives
  • Experience supervising staff and coaching employees for improved performance and professional development 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in finance, accounting, business administration, human resources or related field
  • Able to effectively lead, coordinate, manage and motivate diverse, high-performing teams
  • Demonstrated success managing shared services for an organization
  • Demonstrated success working within a higher education environment in the areas of budget, accounting, construction and deferred maintenance accounting and reporting, and/or human resources
  • Demonstrated experience leading or facilitating organizational change projects impacting a large-scale organization
  • Master collaborator and relationship builder with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage others across all levels of an organization, including senior leaders, peers, employees, and key stakeholders to achieve positive results

  • Proven ability to initiate, lead, and facilitate change, be adaptable with changing conditions, and be comfortable with the ambiguity that accompanies a large public university

  • Excellent verbal and written communication with a demonstrated ability to articulate matters of complexity and nuance to multiple and varied audiences in both planned and extemporaneous situations
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise wise judgment, discretion as appropriate, and an understanding of applying confidentiality to work
  • Ability to plan, execute and finalize complex projects according to strict deadlines
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to develop, analyze, interpret, and explain technical and varied rules and regulations
  • Demonstrated customer service skills as applicable to the responsibilities of this position

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range:

$115,000 - $140,000 annually
