About This Role:

Kansas State University Olathe ( invites applications and nominations for a new Teaching Assistant Professor in Animal Health (non-tenure track). This position will be a 12-month appointment with approximately 80% teaching, 10% non-directed service, and 10% non-credit instruction responsibilities, with future potential for flexible distribution among responsibilities. This position reports directly to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. The faculty at K-State Olathe is particularly interested in individuals with demonstrated experience in collaborating broadly and working as a team member across disciplines. Highest consideration will be given to candidates who possess a strong background in teaching, research, and professional service as it relates to animal health and/or the animal health industry, especially those with expertise in the areas of data analysis, epidemiology, and/or regulatory affairs that would support programming ( It would also be preferred that this expertise synergizes with current Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) faculty interests in infectious disease, epidemiology, pathology, toxicology, cancer, public health, or food safety ( The successful candidate may be considered for appointment at the rank of ancillary professor within other academic departments at Kansas State University, and where appropriate, membership in specialized university centers, such as the Center for Outcomes Research and Epidemiology (CORE) in the CVM (

The Successful Candidate will:

  • Provide graduate-level instruction (approximately 80% teaching commitment) that aligns with academic priorities at the Olathe and Manhattan campuses of Kansas State University.  The primary focus will be courses related to Animal Health with emphasis on specialized topics associated with the animal health industry.  Therefore, experience in research and development, preclinical/clinical research, pharmacovigilance, technical services, and regulatory affairs among others would be ideal.  A background in veterinary epidemiology or statistical (data) analysis for applications in research or business would also be appropriate for this position.
  • Support current programming that is relevant to workforce development through innovative approaches to the changing demands of higher education and growing industry/government/academic partnerships that bridge education with research and translational opportunities.
  • Assist with the design and execution of new courses responsive to the demographics of the potential student population that may be at the local, national, or international level, using face-to-face, online, or hybrid course delivery methods, that lead or support graduate degrees and/or certificates.  There will be a particular emphasis on the student population who are working professionals in the animal health industry and other animal health-related industries, including contract research organizations.
  • Supervise graduate students and/or serve as Major Professor or committee member on graduate student supervisory committees.
  • Recruit prospective graduate students to the K-State Olathe graduate programs in Animal Health; recruitment activities may include the delivery of a topic-based seminar or webinar each semester and attendance at recruitment events that may occur after 5 p.m. on weekdays or on occasional weekends.
  • Provide input on instructional needs and staffing (e.g., joint hires across university departments, industry experts and adjuncts); evaluate performance and benchmark curricular content in alignment with K-State academic policies and standards; report regularly on graduate student status, including progress toward degree completion.
  • Act as a liaison for K-State Olathe academic programs and faculty, serve on campus and university committees related to academic and student issues, and represent the campus within the university and in private/public sectors as appropriate.
  • Be a team member in the community of support and supervising services related to student admissions, enrollment, retention, success, and career advising.
  • Be expected to travel between the campuses in Olathe and Manhattan, Kansas, as well as within the greater Kansas City area as part of the responsibilities of the position.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must possess a DVM (or equivalent) and/or PhD in a discipline relevant to veterinary medicine, and evidence of research or teaching experiences in an academic and/or industry setting. 
  • All candidates must demonstrate peer-reviewed publication and professional presentation.
  • Must have proven success as a teacher and educator in developing curriculum, delivering coursework, and assessing course outcomes and program impact.
  • Must demonstrate success as a collaborator and ability to build coalitions with a range of diverse individuals, stakeholders to achieve institutional and regional growth.
  • Must have strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience and skills in working with animal health data analytics or large data sets associated with animal health research (e.g., disease epidemiology, disease surveillance, diagnostics) and/or animal health products in the industry.
  • Proven ability to mentor and ensure the success of graduate-level students from academic and industry sectors in diverse programs and disciplines.
  • Demonstrated leadership and teamwork skills, commitment to shared governance, ability to work with diverse constituencies within the university and corporate/government/community sectors, and effective managerial, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated interest in professional education relevant to animal health.
  • Evidence of innovations in teaching and learning through different course delivery modalities and technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to foster diversity and promote a collegial and constructive environment based on open communication, team building, and effective management.
