About This Role:

The Department of Food, Nutrition, Dietetics and Health (FNDH), within the College of Health and Human Sciences, is currently seeking a 12-month Extension Assistant Professor to join their team. This position will develop, provide, evaluate, and coordinate evidence-based nutrition education and chronic disease prevention programs for youth and adults. Extension faculty serve as a liaison between local clientele, other resource agencies, and K-State administrators, faculty, and programs. This position will have local unit, departmental, K-State Research and Extension, and University responsibilities.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide programmatic leadership and training at the state, regional, and national levels in nutrition and health promotion for youth and adults
  • Engage in collaborations to develop grant proposals to obtain external funding for nutrition education programs and provide educational programs targeted to youth and adult audiences
  • Develop and/or revise, implement, and evaluate nutrition, chronic disease prevention, and health promotion program content for youth and adults
  • Provide expertise in nutrition and innovative educational approaches, including program evaluation to local Extension agents and other partners
  • Respond to questions from the public and professionals related to nutrition and health promotion for youth and adults
  • Maintain an active, funded scholarly activity program that employs graduate students
  • Provide research opportunities for graduate students and engage students in nutrition/health-related community outreach and Extension programs for youth and adult audiences
  • Present research findings at national, regional, and state conferences and publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals
  • Supervise Extension support staff
  • Serve as major advisor for graduate students

This 12-month position at the rank of extension assistant professor has a preferred starting date of October 2022, with a competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The complexity of the department allows faculty members who are leaders in the fields of athletic training, dietetics, human nutrition, obesity, public health, and sensory analysis to discover, disseminate and apply knowledge to promote improved food choices and nutritional status, prevent and rehabilitate injuries, understand consumer preferences and behaviors, and enhance the well-being of people via food and physical activity.

The College of Health and Human Sciences is home to six academic departments (Applied Human Sciences; Food, Nutrition, Dietetics & Health; Hospitality Management; Interior Design & Fashion Studies; Personal Financial Planning; and Kinesiology), the Center on Aging, and the Physician Assistant program. In addition, the college received approval from the Kansas Board of Regents to serve as a satellite location for the WSU nursing program. What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Earned doctoral degree (upon application) in nutrition, public health, or closely related field
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively on nutrition education programs
  • Evidence of strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated potential for scholarly competence and research productivity

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working on Extension programs
  • History preparing and submitting, managing external grants and peer-reviewed publications
  • Registered Dietitian Nutritionist

Other Requirements:

  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment
  • Must have a U.S. driver’s license
  • Must be able to travel and stay overnight and/or extended overnight stays
