About This Role:

The Veterinary Health Center (VHC) within the College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking Registered Veterinary Technicians (Veterinary Nurse, RVT, LVT, or CVT) to join our dedicated Large Animal team to provide exemplary patient care and customer service. Our nursing team provides direct patient care in our large animal barn by utilizing their technical skills for both the equine and livestock areas and are given the opportunity to continue to advance their skillset. Communication and leadership skills are utilized daily to facilitate the daily schedule, coordinate student orientation and teaching. Our Veterinary Nurses work closely with students, interns, residents, and senior clinicians. The VHC has an established career ladder for veterinary nurses to provide opportunities for advancement, supports continuing education and subspecialty certifications recognized by NAVTA.

This position is for an overnight shift with rotating days/times.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Veterinary Nurse I
    • Requires the completion of a two-year college program in veterinary or animal technology accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA).
  • Veterinary Nurse II
    • Requires the completion of a two-year college program in veterinary or animal technology accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and two years of relevant experience.
  • Veterinary Nurse III
    • Requires completion of a two-year college program in veterinary or animal technology accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and five years of relevant experience as a state credentialed veterinary technician (RVT, LVT, CVT).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two years post-graduate experience in a veterinary hospital setting
  • One year post-graduate experience in veterinary equine and large animal procedures
  • Clinical teaching and/or supervisory experience will be considered a beneficial asset for this position
  • Excellent communication skills and strong interpersonal skills
  • Experience with veterinary hospital management programs, electronic medical records system

Other Requirements:

  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment.
  • Must be registered as a licensed veterinary nurse under the authority of Kansas Board of Veterinary Medical Examiner within six months of appointment.

Anticipated Hiring Pay Range:

$23.00 - $34.69 per hour, based on qualifications and experience
