About This Role:

The Veterinary Health Center (VHC) within the College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking applicants for a Veterinary Nurse I, II or III. This position exists to assist with providing quality veterinary procedures for client/teaching/research animals at the VHC. This position is assigned to the Specialty and General Dentistry service within the Small Animal Surgery Department. Assignments will be made by the supervisor. This position is also responsible for coordination of animal treatments, instruct, train, and oversee students and employees in approved treatment technique. This position is designated as essential.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • For a Veterinary Nurse I: Completion of a two year college program in veterinary and animal technology accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association.
  • For a Veterinary Nurse II: Completion of a two year college program in veterinary and animal technology accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association and two years of relevant experience.
  • For a Veterinary Nurse III: Completion of a two year college program in veterinary and animal technology accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association and five years of relevant experience as a state credentialed veterinary technician (RVT, LVT, CVT).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • VTS (Dentistry) certification or interested in becoming certified with experience in administering and monitoring anesthesia, performing dental radiographs, and dental charting
  • Post graduate experience in a veterinary hospital setting.
  • Clinical teaching and/or supervisory experience will be considered a beneficial asset to this position.
  • Have excellent communication skills and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain and use ordinary and dental specialty medical hospital equipment.
  • Be physically able to handle, restrain and provide medical services to domestic animals.
  • A working knowledge of operating room sterile technique procedures is preferred.
  • Knowledge of standard emergency veterinary medical procedures is preferred.
  • Ability to perform word processing and data entry procedures on a personal computer.
  • Be willing to master new techniques.

Other Requirements:

  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment.
  • Must be registered as a paraprofessional under the authority of the Kansas Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners within six months of appointment.
