About This Role:

The HVAC Technician is part of a team that services, maintains, diagnoses problems, and repairs air conditioning systems and refrigeration equipment in order to provide a safe, well maintained, comfortable living, learning, and working environment for students, residents, faculty, staff and guests of Kansas State University. 

Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Diagnoses problems and repairs walk/in freezers, upright/chest type refrigerators, ice machines, milk machines, ice cream machines and water coolers.
  • Checks, conducts and follows preventive maintenance schedule on highly technical chillers, cooling towers, air handlers, vacuum pumps and related controls and equipment in a large complex of residence halls.
  • Installs, services, and maintains energy management systems, HVAC, air conditioning and heat pump systems and equipment in a variety of large residence halls and food service facilities.
  • Services electrical and plumbing components related to refrigeration and air conditioning equipment.
  • Performs other duties including recordkeeping, organizing tools. Participates in work activities as a productive and engaged team member.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Requires two years of relevant experience. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by a hiring manager.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prefer Mechanical License.
  • Knowledge of tools, equipment and materials used in trade.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • Prefer four years’ experience at the journeyman level.
  • Ability to provide a high level of customer service.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Other Requirements:

  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment.
  • Valid driver’s license upon employment.
  • EPA universal refrigerant certificate upon employment.
