About This Role:

The Veterinary Health Center (VHC) within the College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking Veterinary Nurses to join our dedicated Triage Call Center to help facilitate exemplary patient care and quality customer service. This position is primarily responsible for triaging phone calls that come into the VHC for patient appointments and consultations. With a substantial knowledge of nursing care, this position actively supports the hospital by serving as an initial point of contact and facilitating communications to help meet patient needs. Working hours for Veterinary Nurses in this position will include daytime hours Monday-Friday. Excellent communication and leadership skills are utilized daily in this position.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires the completion of a two-year college program in veterinary or animal technology accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of basic veterinary medical concepts, animal behavior and animal husbandry.
  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to understand diagnostic procedures.
  • Ability to adhere to appropriate safety procedures.
  • Ability to prioritize daily tasks.
  • Ability to work in high intensity environment.
  • Skilled in time management.
  • Skilled in interpersonal communication.
  • Skilled in written communication.
  • Be willing to master new techniques.
  • Ability to answer multiple phone lines.
  • Ability to make sound decisions in a stressful situation.
  • Ability to prioritize and recognize the most effective & efficient process to accomplish the daily workflow.
  • Adaptable to different computer systems/advanced computer skills.

Other Requirements:

  • The College of Veterinary Medicine requires that new hires must obtain a Kansas license as a Veterinary Technician within 6 months of employment.
