Responsibilities include leading a breeding program to develop and release new sorghum germplasm, parent lines, and hybrids. Areas of innovation could include germplasm characterization, application of functional genomics, statistical genetics, and applied molecular breeding approaches to sorghum breeding. Specific research targets may include abiotic and biotic constraints to production and pursuit of improvement for productivity and profitability. The presence of a large and diverse community of sorghum researchers with the KSU Center for Sorghum Improvement and USDA-CGAHR provides ample opportunity for cross-disciplinary collaboration. The incumbent is expected to develop an externally funded research program including the training of graduate students, peer-reviewed publication of research results, and promoting collegiality within the KSU and broader communities.
